Guided Imagery

Guided Imagery as the name might imply is the process of guiding an individual into and through a visual experience. The images come from your sub-conscience just the way that dreams do. The difference between guided imagery and dreams is that the mind is being directed to create certain images, setting or scenes that will help to strengthen a belief, assist in self-confidence, set a goal etc. This same process is also useful in Hypnosis and the primary difference is that in guided imagery, you are usually not in as deeply as hypnosis. With Interactive Guided imagery, a journey will have dialogue between you and the facilitator.

There are several common techniques that may be used. One is know as the "Special Place". You are directed to create a special place when you would feel safe. You could go there many times, as it tends to become safer and safer. The feeling of safety becomes important as it allows you to go deeper into issues that may be troubling you as well. Other methods include exploring objects. These objects may be something that has particular interest to you or objects know as stock objects which include things like flowers, rocks, trees etc. Through a series of questions you are able to get closer in touch with feelings. The feelings are often in parallel with feelings surrounding some issue in your life. These are but two of dozens of guided imagery techniques.
